Recent Press – Western People

Thank you to the Western People newspaper for the lovely features on the Mayo Mental Health Association poster competition.

The Mayo Mental Health Association invited me along as special guest and prize giver at their 8th annual art competition. It was so positive and encouraging to see children express their thoughts on mental health through the form of art.

Sally Caulwell Prints

My friend Sally is an amazing designer and illustrator – we worked together on my Paper Bloom project, she designed the posters, postcards and my publication.

I just received a lovely parcel from her with some of her new prints from her Irish Hedgerow series – I love them! I can’t wait to get them framed!18893243_1683061438656318_7533769063287848411_n My Sally Caulwell prints

Mayo Mental Health Association Blog Post

stay-positive

I was delighted to be asked by Mayo Mental Health Association to write a blog post for their monthly blog. Positive Mental Health is essential to my well being. The blog is entitled ‘Using The Power of Positivity’ – I discuss my life with Cystic Fibrosis, about being an artist, and of course the importance of positivity.

Building Fences Throughout New York City – Ai Weiwei

I’m really excited to hear about Ai Weiwei’s latest artwork:

Good Fences Make Good Neighbours

Ai Weiwei will build more than 100 fences and installations around New York City for “Good Fences Make Good Neighbors,” one of his most large-scale public art projects to date. The exhibition, which opens on Oct. 12, was commissioned by the Public Art Fund.

This means I need to plan another trip to NYC to see the exhibition in person. Ai Weiwei is one of my favourite artists, I have been following his work for many years now, and have been lucky enough to see his work in person previously in London and Beijing.

The exhibition will comprise of about 10 major fence-themed installations and scores of smaller works spread across multiple boroughs, including Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn. Among the planned sites for Ai Wewei’s project are Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, the Cooper Union building in Manhattan and Doris C. Freedman Plaza, at the tourist-heavy southeast corner of Central Park.

Ai Weiwei calls attention to human rights violations on an epic scale; as an artist, he expands the definition of art to include new forms of social engagement. I’m really excited about seeing this work unfold.

Wishing you all a very happy Easter full of lovely chocolaty treats. I will be spending mine with family and friends eating lots of chocolate (lindt bunnies are my favourite!), and playing with babies. Sounds perfect!
